The Suwannee River Boys have been singing for the Lord many many years. Actually the Original Swanee River Boys started singing around 1935 as the Vaughn Four Quartet but later changed the name and started recording in 1939 as the Swanee River Boys. Buford Abner, the only Original Swanee River Boy still living, will celebrate his 92th birthday November 10th 2009. He is still singing with a strong voice today. I talk with Buford and His wife Dorothy quite often. What wonderful passionate people they are and still going on for Jesus. Buford retired in 1971 but The original Swanee River Boys retired in 1974. When Buford retired he said he thought he had been on the road long enough but realized afterwards he had made a big mistake, (no reflection on Ms. Dorothy). He stated that he missed the road more than he thought he would. The Suwannee River Boys name has been in existance 75 years and God willing will continue to be a known name in the Gospel Music industry for many more years to come. The S. R. Boys are very excited about what is happening in the Ministry. Our music is reaching people of all ages. everywhere we go regardless of venue. People come by frequently and tell us how wonderful the singing was. Paul, like Buford, writes most of the S. R. Boys songs and music. The S. R. Boys are very dedicated to the Ministry and we are family. We have traveled many hundreds of thousands of miles over the years and still travel many miles and cover many states, doing in excess of 200 dates per year.
